Sullivan, the author

It's been a busy couple of days! Following up the science fair and the field trip, we attended a banquet on May 6th to honor the winners of the local library's writing contest.  Sullivan won honorable mention for a short story she submitted called "The Firewall".  We got home from the field trip around 4:30 and had to be at the banquet by 6:00, so it was a busy - but really fun - day.   Unfortunately, I took my SD card out to download the field trip pictures and forgot to put it back in, so I had to use my phone.  The guest speaker was Jarrett Krosoczka, an author who gave us a great presentation on the artistic process and the importance of perseverance.  The poetry writers each got up and read their winning entries, and the the short story writers each got up and told a little bit about their stories.  Between all those good writers and the guest speaker, it was a very inspiring evening. Each winner got a book that contained all the winning entries as well as a copy of one of Krosoczka's books.  Here are some photos from the evening:

 

 Here are all the winners.  See the guy in the back with the beard?  He was sitting at our table for dinner and asked Sullivan to autograph his copy of her story.  He's was so sweet.

Science Fair

May 5th was the science fair at Sullivan's school.  For this year's project, she choose to investigate the hardness and density of various minerals.  She got a rocks and minerals kit for Christmas, so she tested some of the minerals from that.
