First basketball game

Sullivan was really nervous about her first game, but she and her team did great.  It's a teaching league, so they didn't keep score.  If they had, I'm sure we would have won :)

Sullivan is trying basketball this winter, and it's been a new and different experience for all of us.  For one thing, this is the first competitive sport she's done as well as the first team sport. We started in November, and the first thing we noticed is how incredibly good these girls are.  Sullivan is the only third grader on her team - the rest are all fourth and fifth graders.  And it's pretty obvious that these girls have been playing a while.  I thought for sure she'd want to quit since she was a bit "out of her league" but she has stuck with it and practiced hard.  Sometimes she comes out of practice very frustrated.  It's hard to make those 10-foot baskets and hard to be the youngest, least-experienced on the team.  But tonight was a GREAT practice.  I was just so happy to see how nice the older girls are to her.  They keep her involved and give her a lot of encouragement.  I guess they remember how it feels. But tonight - she finally made one of those 10-foot baskets!  In fact, she made two!!  She was so pleased!  But what made me feel really good was to see how happy her coach and teammates were for her.  I'm so proud of her for working so hard and for sticking with an activity that required so much work.  First game is next week!

Back to the grind!

Our long, lazy holiday is over, and it's back to work and/or school for all of us.
